Lee Newton’s new video “The Long Goodbye” is out now—an emotional story of love, loss, and strength you won’t want to miss.
Lee Newton’s new single “The Long Goodbye” (released Sept 13, 2025) is a heartfelt country ballad of love slipping away. With powerhouse vocals & timeless storytelling, it blends classic tradition with modern sound, setting the stage for her 5th studio album Journey.
Nashville Recording Artist and Singer/Songwriter Lee Newton comes from humble beginnings in a small town in Western North Carolina. Growing up, she experienced her share of hard times, but music was always a source of hope. At just five years old, Lee began singing in church alongside her mother. Her love for music blossomed when her father, a local cab driver, filled their home with the sounds of Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, and Patsy Cline. At seven, he placed a guitar in her hands, teaching her to play as they sang together while he drove his taxi on calls.
“My Daddy, who named me Brenda Lee after the amazing country singer, always told me, ‘One day, you’ll be playing at the Grand Ole Opry.’ From that moment, I knew music was my calling.”
Heavily influenced by country greats like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, The Judds, and Lorrie Morgan—along with the bluesy grit of Susan Tedeschi and the southern rock of Lynyrd Skynyrd—Lee’s unique style blends traditional country with soulful blues and a touch of southern-rock edge. By 20, she had joined bands, taught herself drums, and even traveled to New York City to sing backup for Artimus Pyle, Leslie Hawkins, and JoJo Billingsley—original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Rising Career & Awards
Lee’s solo journey has been marked with milestones. In 2020, she won Vocalist of the Year at the Josie Music Awards. In 2021, her self-penned EP Undamaged was named EP/Album of the Year at the JMAs and landed in the Top 20 Best of 2021 Women of Country.
Her 2022 full-length album UNLEESHED showcased her songwriting (Lee penned nine tracks) and featured collaborations with Leona Williams, Pam Tillis, Lee Roy Parnell, Mike Rogers, and Tim Watson. UNLEESHED later won Album of the Year at the JMAs (2024), held at the Grand Ole Opry House. Its single “Working Girl Blues” (feat. Williams, Tillis & Parnell) hit #1 on the NDExpress Independent Single Charts, and the album also reached #1 on the NDExpress Independent Album Charts.
In 2023, Lee released her first Gospel record, Crossroads, featuring duets with Joe Bonsall (The Oak Ridge Boys), T. Graham Brown, Rhonda Vincent, Dale Houston, Tony Jackson, Kathryn Shipley, Ben Isaacs, and more. The project helped earn her 2023 JMA Artist of the Year – Traditional Country, celebrated at the Grand Ole Opry, where she closed the show with her original “Carolina.”
In 2024, Lee released the album Homesick, featuring the singles “Carolina Rain,” “Homesick,” and “Meant to Be,” with “Meant to Be” taking Song of the Year at the ISSA Awards in Atlanta.
